My Fairy and Fairy Godmother

Do you believe in fairies??

I was not sure whether I believed in them or not but I now do for sure :).What happened to make me believe in them one might ask.

Let me explain :).

A new style in traditional ornaments that has just arrived and with "Navratri" just around the corner a parcel from ahmedabad containing beautiful jewellery brings a smile to my face.A wedding in the house and TA DA I receive a new dress with my exact fittings and that too in my favourite colour yeps from ahmedabad.I am thinking of buying a few Tops to go with my jeans,Not to worry off comes a parcel from ahmedabad with prettiest colours and lovely TOPS with my exact fittings.

I wanted to pack my favourite shawl in the luggage but because of the weight limit allowed on the "US" flight am forced to leave the shawl behind. Not a big deal one might say but sometimes you miss things that are dear to you.So It makes me sad.Well SWISH comes a packet from minnesota adressed to me and guess what I find a prefect "NEW" shawl of the same colour that I left behind and needless ot say its lovely.I want to apply heena pack to my hair and suddenly realise I don't have the bowl to mix the hair pack.ZOOM comes a parcel from minnesota adressed to me containing a perfect bowl for my hair pack.I am finding it difficult to locate glass jars of a particular size to store things in my kitchen, you guessed it a parcel from minnesota solves the problem.I love jewellery making and am thinking to get myself a jwellery making kit so that I can keep up with my hobby,a packet from yes Minnesota with the loveliest beads and enough jewellery making material to last for couple of months just finds its way in my mail box.

So one might ask Do fairies reside in ahmedabad and GOD Mothers in Minnesota?I am not sure.I just know that my lovely younger SISTER resides in ahmedabad and my beautiful SISTER IN LAW resides in minnesota. They mean a world to me and I am thankfull for their presence in my life.

I had a doll name "PINKY".I had named her so because she was very pink and pretty.I was 5 years old when I got a baby sister. The first time my dad took me to the hospital to visit my baby sister,it was surely exciting.I vividly remember the day.On the way to the hospital we stopped at a shop to buy my sister a chocolate.I saw her in the hospital, barely few hours old and said,"She is my "PINKY" look how fair and pink she is just like my doll".That day onwards till now she has remained my pinky. When I reached home after visiting her my grandmother asked me,"How much did I love my baby sister?" I tried to widen both my arms to the maximum possible extent to show how much and said,"Sky is the limit.I love her soooooooo much."Then onwards every time that someone asked me this question I would reply in the same manner.Amazingly my answer to that question hasn't changed even today, except for the fact that I can widen my arms to a greater extent now and I love her a little bit more now for the wonderful person that she has become:) :) :).

Years back I wanted to come to US for my higher studies.I got a decent scholarship and everyone in the house was happy except my sister. She remained sad for the whole time while I discussed the further course of plan.I noticed her being gloomy which was a little strange knowing that she was happy that I had done wonderful in my exams and got myself a decent scholarship. So I asked her what was wrong and she started crying simply for the reason that I would go off so far from her and that made me feel sad too.Well I did not come to US then I could not muster the courage to leave my family and travel so far.Years later now I reside in US with my husband.I distinctly remember for the first few weeks that I called her after coming here all that we both could manage was a faint "how are you?" and the rest was crying. The more people change the more they remain same :) :) :).

It was always fun to grow up with a younger sister, and I cherish those fond memories of my childhood of playing togather, crying togather, laughing togather and even fighting togather :) :).She still continues tobe one of my most valued friends.

Two decades later of my younger sisters birth, life gave me an opportunity to find out what a pleasure it is to have an elder sister.I am the eldest sibling in the family and never had an elder sister but now I do-My SIS IN LAW.She is everything that I could ask of my elder sister and much more.A support system I count on, a tresured friend and my greatest inspiration. The five days that we spent togather in bangalore shopping, eating, having fun :) when she visited India in November 2008 are some of my priced memories.I am looking forward to her visit yet again next week, this time though not in bangalore but in seattle :) :) :).Can barely wait to see her.

Anyone now asking me how much I love my sister in law? I am sure I would try to widen both my arms to the maximum possible extent to show how much and say,"Sky is the limit.I love her soooooooo much.":):).Just like I did a long time ago when I saw my baby sister for the first time.

You can choose your friends but not your family.I feel blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful people in the family whom I can count on,who love me unconditionally and see to it that I remain happy."Knock on the wood".

Day 7-25th APRIL 2010

A perfect sunday morning

Hubby dear surrounded by newspapers, gadgets: Laptop, phones and enjoying one of his favourite movies on television.A perfect sunday morning :).

Sunday started on a better note then saturday and I was relieved to see swelling and pain in the ankle ease a little bit.As hubby dear settled down to enjoy a perfect sunday morning I caught up with some housework.

Kitchen tobe cleaned

Vessel cleaning

It felt nice to see the cleaned sink

Clothes tobe folded

Washed my hair with Beer

This was something that I wanted to do since long but everytime that I looked at the beer bottle sittng in the fridge I would be skeptical about the smell it would emit.So as this sunday I was sure we were home confined I decided to give it a shot and I loved it.Yeps my hair did smell of beer for sometime but the hair danced happily so CHEERS !!!

Picnic Time

Thats not me in the picture. As I entered the room to pull the blinds of the patio door I noticed a family going off to a picnic on a bright sunday morning.

Tired of Pictures

As soon as I turned taking the picture of the family heading for picnic from the patio hubby dear anticipating my camera and the coming "SNAP" from it gave a look of "ENOUGH" to me :) but I clicked his pic anyways :) :).

A quick lunch of vegetable pulao and I was ready to settle down beside hubby dear with my books and catch up on some reading as well.No pic of the lunch ,was too hugry to think about anything else :).

In the evening  two of hubby dear's friends: Adarsh and Phat dropped by to check on him.So very nice of them.Made some poha for the snack.Time flew by as we sat chatting merrily over a bowl of hot poha.

Early dinner and early to bed.The day went well.

This ends my "Record  A Week" in your life, which I started with my lovely SIL.Will put togather pictures as a remeberance for the week.It was fun. What all I experienced and learnt while participating in this project is a topic of another post may be my next post :).

Day 6-24th APRIL 2010

Compared to yesterday the day started on a slow note today and ended rather on a gloomy note.I got up late and had a slow start to the day or maybe relaxing start tot he day.In the afternoon hubby dear went off to play cricket match and I made myself some coffee after a long long long time and caught on some wonderfull movies while he was gone.

I usually donot goto the gym on weekends, but becasue I had missed my exercise routine yesterday I wanted togo to the gym today so that I donot break my 5 days a week exercise schedule. In the evening just as I got ready to leave for the gym hubby dear returned from the game with a sprained ankle :( which looked badly swollen :(.I spent sometime with him, gave him a hotwater bag for his twisted ankle, applied a pain reliever on the swollen area and made him some evening snack .

I was scared to leave hubby dear alone but being the wonderful person that he is he convinced me he was alright and encouraged me to go to the gym.I decided not to spend my usual 2 hours in the gym and returned back within an hour for an early dinner.Today's dinner soup and noodles.

Hubby dear is sound asleep now but the swelling is definitely still there and so is the pain.Made him a glass of warm milk with tumeric.Tumeric is said to have healing effect.Have put a hot water bag on his injured ankle.I earnestly hope this helps.

More tomorrow.

Day 5 - 23 APRIL 2010

It was a busy day today.Though I don't have much pictures for today it was a fun day.I went to downtown seattle with my dearest cousin purvi and did some shopping. What can be better then two girls out shopping?? It was fun I thoroughly enjoyed myself and keeping in tradition, like a true good wife spend hubby dear's money too :) :).

I din't take camera with me so no pictures of seattle downtown :( but I will amend that next time I go to the downtown :).Weather in seattle is pretty unpredictable hence in fear of rain I kept my camera home. When I started from home it was bright and sunny so I was tempted to take camera for a walk with me but decided against it(at hubby dear's advice). As it turns out,it proved tobe a wise choice because it was raining by the time I reached seattle downtown.

It was still raining when it was time to head home after couple of hours at the store. We abandoned our plan to have dinner at the downtown and readily agreed to a comfortable and warm ride back home in paratikbhai's car rather then taking a bus.

On our way back home pratikbhai suggested I call hubby dear and ask him to meet us for dinner at a favourite pizza joint.I was not feeling upto it for two reasons first, all I wanted now was a book and a warm bowl of soup and second,it was my "EAT HEALTHY" week how could I have pizza,if I had better healthy options.I excused myself.knowing my newly acquired obsession to loose weight they were expecting my reaction :) :).

It was 8'0 clock in the evening by the time I reached home.Hubby dear was home by then but I felt drained out and had no energy to do anything let alone cook.To perk myself up I decided to try out a new recipe that I had read in a blog here. The idea of doing something new in the kitchen  cheered me up a little...and off I ran to the kitchen while hubby dear waited with his fingers crossed(tobe interpreted as DREADFULLY) for my new dish "Stuffed Egg Rolls".

  Egg Crepes/Parathas

 Soyabean Stuffing

   Final Product:Egg Roll

VERDICT: Hubby dear liked it :).I made some changes to the original recipe which i'll post soon on my food blog here.

  Shopping at downtown

Shopping list

Missed my exercise routine for the day,but had a wonderfull day.

More tomorrow.

Day 4 - 22 APRIL 2010

Thursday was a RUSH RUSH day.Not that I was running anywhere but everything screamed for attention from my kitchen sink to laundry to ofcourse gym.

Clothes fresh and fine :)
It was great to see the laundry basket empty

Arranged Closet

In between all this managed to take time off to read books :)

Tweety

This stuffed tweety happily sat on my bedroom windowsill in bangalore and here it rests above my closet shelf. My niece Divya who is 3 years old now came to visit us in Bangalore in November 2008 and she took an instant liking toward this TWEETY.She would hold it like a baby and pretend the baby is going to sleep. It was super cute.

I could not leave behind this tweety when I was packing things off before coming here.Everytime I look at this tweety it reminds me of my dearest niece.I am looking forward to meet both of my nieces Saumya and divya soon :).

Went to the gym as well and cooked Rasam and rice for the dinner.Tomorrow am going to meet my cousin purvi at downtown seattle for some shopping.I am excited. It's going tobe girls time out :).

More tomorrow.

DAY 3- 21st APRIL 2010

It was a bright day in its true sense :).

Beads Necklace and pink stone pendant and earrings.

Saw a wonderful movie "Raincoat" in the afternoon while I was making some jewellery.
Exercise went well.

Had eggs for dinner.
Wednesday is an egg day in the house. So I get to experiment with diffrent egg dishes. This wednesday was nothing new in terms of recipe just"Egg Bhurji" and parathas. All I knew to cook with eggs was omelette but now I can boil eggs, make egg curry and ofcourse egg bhurji.

And now an early sleep time today nothing unusual in the day.More tomorrow.

TIME PLEASE

This phrase unleashes lots of memories from my childhood. This was a common phrase used by "US" kids to take a break from the ongoing play scene.Let me explain...Suppose we are busy playing "HIDE AND SEEK",and someone is thirsty, so that person comes out of the hiding place shouts "TIME PLEASE" runs up to the house and comes and hides again in the new hiding place, the seeker cannot declare him "OUT".The game dosen't stop at time please,it continues as usual, only the person who shouts "TIME PLEASE" is allowed to excuse himself/herself from the game for sometime to join back later.
  • Mom calling  us back home in middle of the game..
    • Rescuer:TIME PLEASE.
  • Thirsty in middle of the game?
    • Rescuer:TIME PLEASE.
  • Need to rush to the bathroom?
    • Rescuer:TIME PLEASE
The reasons to shout "TIME PLEASE" were numerous and endless and varied diffrently from person to person.Though they acted as life saviours most of the times yet "TIME PLEASE" had its own disadvantage. The game never stopped on saying "TIME PLEASE" so lots of time we used to return back from our break and find that the game is over :( :(..

Each game had a set numbers of these "TIME PLEASE" that every individual was allowed, which were decided before the game started, so that the person who is the "seeker" doesn't have to put up with many time pleases :).

These "TIME PLEASE" were a must in all our games not just hide and seek.At an age where kids din't even know what technology was, came up with this "TIME PLEASE" which acted as "Pause" for us.

So one might ask why this "TIME PLEASE" description in the middle of a smoothly running "Record a week" ,the reason being me.I need to say "TIME PLEASE " right now, not because I am tired or something .I am having fun but,a small glitch. My system does not register camera. So I have to wait till hubby dear finishes his work on his laptop,to upload pics on the BLOG.

I had 2 choices either to post all my entries without pics and add pics later OR wait for the week-end and post all my entries with the pics.I have opted for the second one.I am very much recording all that I want to write/remember and taking pics too :) .

You can expect lots of posts over the weekend, till then TIME PLEASE :).

DAY 2- 20TH APRIL 2010

It's not evening but a TYPICAL SEATTLE morning-NO sun and Drizzling, yet the day felt bright.

Talked to friends and family. It was long since I talked to one of my close friends. It felt great to connect again.Talking daily to my SIL has become a ritual for me and it is rejuvinating.

Sometimes hubby dear wonders how do we manage to talk for hours each day and what do we have to talk about??Well everything that I can think off goes into our daily chitchat from what did I make to sharing recipies to ramblings about no sun in the sky to even a minute weight gain.what we ate and did in the weekend becomes an interesting topic of conversation too.I have two very cute and beautiful nieces aged 5 and 3 years. While my SIL is on phone with me they have their own activities going on in the background. Our conversations are often a mix and match of SIL trying to talk to me and my nieces at the same time. It's fun.Everyday I have so many things about my nieces to share when hubby dear comes back from office. The day any one of my two nieces talk to me becomes a celebration day for me and a J factor for hubby dear :).

I find something missing in my day if it is devoid of our daily"TALK HOUR".

Vegetables with pasta sauce-My dinner for the day.I tossed in all the vegetables that I could locate in my refrigerator Carrots, brocolli, cauliflower and peas.Though I decided to accompany my change in exercise routine with healthy eating and promised to do away with all pacakged or preservative added food for a week yet,I could not stop myself from having an oat and raisin cookie.

PEEK A BOO...Hubby dear  running away from my camera and hiding away.Wanted to capture him making his dinner -Noodles,but he ran off before I could click a picture. :).While I was making my vegetables in pasta sauce hubby dear decided to accompany me in the kitchen and make his own meal NOODLES.

Finally caught in action...In case you are wondering what is in his hand?? Its a noodle stick, yet tobe cooked. The noodles came out to be tasty :)..

It was a nice and bright day(though without sun).I managed to eat well (almost) and exercise well too.Stuck to my eleptical for more then 20 minutes :).Jewellery making din't see any progress today, maybe tomorrow.

Talking to one of my good friend Murtaza was an added attraction of the day.More tomorrow.

Record A week (19th APRIL '10 to 25th APRIL '10)

I am recording a week of my life starting today. My dearest SIL asked me to participate in one of Ali Edwards, projects and I jumped at the idea.Well, one for the reason that it will give me lots of chances to click pics and another how could I pass up any opportunity to do anything with my lovely SIL??? :).What better way to record "MY WEEK"  then the blog??So here I am recording a week in my life. One might ask what needs tobe recorded??Nothing in particular and everything in general. One is free to take pics and record any detail one might feel like recording,to remember the day, and collect these pics to see what one did in a particular week.So for next seven day each night before my bed-time I am going to sit down and write what that day meant for me.

I have set 2 goals for these 7 days. This will give me a chance to keep a tab on my progress as well as something new to write everyday.I hit a weight plateau and have been maintaining a particular weight since more then 10 days now.I am happy to have lost weight, and the fact that I am being able to maintain it is a great motivator for me to stick to my diet and exercise routine, but at the same time I want my last extra pounds to come off and weight plateau like any other weight watcher frustrates me.

First Goal:
I have decided to change my exercise pattern to see if I get
   any positive results.

My SIL,knowing that jewellery making intrests me sent me a huge supply of jewellery making accessories(I already said that I have a wonderfull SIL).The supplies arrived a week back but I am yet to start my "JEWELLERY MAKING".

   Second Goal:
   Make some jewellery.

DAY 1 :19th APRIL 2010

What went today, hmmm it was good except for the fact that I could not click any pics outside the house.Listened to my favourite songs, excercised well, ate well and made some jwellery too :)..

Changed my exercise routine and managed to stay on eleptical rather then run on treadmill  :).Which is an achievment for me considering the fact that I dread eleptical and cannot stay on them    for more then 10 minutes okay 20 sometimes.Today was different I managed to stay on eleptical for more then 20 minutes.

Made a pair of earrings and a pendant out of my jewellery beads.

     Listened to some favourite songs

   Vessel Cleaning :)

The day went well.I am yet to see results of my exercise change pattern but am already feeling positive about it :).More tomorrow.

P.S:Dee I'll try and post my entry early so that you can read it before your bed-time. :)

MISSING BANGALORE-MISSING ATITHI.....

It's been two months since I shifted from bangalore to Seattle.Couple of question that people still keep on asking is "How do you like it here?,what is the diffrence that you find between bangalore and seattle?what is that you miss here?" and on and on it goes...Well apart from my nearest family and ofcourse "Apnu Amdavad" I do miss lot of things about "Namma Bengaluru".To name a few Andhra meals, shared specially with dearest friends Veena,Karpagam,Aparna and Vidya.

Every little professional/personal and joyful/sad occasion for all of us became a reason to visit ATITHI for andhra meals. As much as reasons such as relief over ending a gruelling semester, enormous delight of finishing the much tiresome task of end term paper correction, ending the course on time without any session diffrence,a WICS session delivered well became a reason to celebrate and visit ATITHI so did an MRR meeting gone bad, appraisal letter not arriving, feedback not turning up as hoped, having to put up with non cooperating visiting faculty became a reason to visit ATITHI and drown ourselves in delicious calories loaded andhra meals.

We found overselves chatting away over ATITHI andhra meals at all personal celebrations too like birthdays, anniversries, spouse birthday, kids birthdays, kids passing off with good marks(which happened all the time, with the bunch of talented kids that all had) and even better half getting a promotion or a raise(well some orgnizations do actually give raise :) ,not just conduct appraisal meetings). My allergy to pollens and resulting cough and nose choke/block gave me one more reason to have hot piping Andhra Meals.

One of us arriving late or running off without having a cup of coffee after lunch to reach on time for after lunch class was too common.Half an hour of lunch time at ATITHI sometimes acted as a day saviour and saw us through some of the most tedious and arderous days.Andhra meals at ATITHI saw us to all good times and bad and ofcourse lots of farewell.Lots of time I and veena would simply opt to abandon our much nutritious and in my case diet homemade food in favour of ATITHI just to enjoy a peaceful lunch hour after a particularly hectic "2- session at a go" mornings.Inspite of the fact that I followed a strict no "outside eating" diet for sometime in my crusade to loose weight i made a concession towards ATITHI and happily munched on its papads....without worrying about the extra time i'll have to spend on treadmill to get those calories burned off :) :) .(papads do have calories).

All I want to do now in this cold weather with snow flurries, rain and 5 degree temperature outside is gather my bunch of friends and go off to Andhra meals......

Missing the hot piping spicy food and the warmth of old friends....
